Once upon a time, there was a girl who had no idea who or what she wanted to be when she grew up - but she always knew that somehow she would wind up helping others. Fast forward through the blur that was college at Penn State (WE ARE!) as this girl was now all grown up and ready to make her mark in the world of nutrition. But where to begin? If you work in the field, you know the possibilities are endless. Community? Clinical? Food Service? Research? With degree in hand she took a leap and moved to the DC area (Arlington, VA what's up?!) and trained to be a doula and lactation consultant. On a whim, she applied, and was accepted, to a Masters program at George Mason University and began a love-hate affair with the nutrition research world. Around the same time, she fell in love with her high-school best friend and got the most adorable puppy. Even though she wasn't sure where these experiences were leading her, life was good. Really good. The woman moved back home to New York to be closer with friends and family, and began a career as a Retail Dietitian for a well known supermarket chain - and here we are!
Spoiler alert... that woman is me!
I have made the TERRIFYING decision to put myself out there, start a blog, and work towards creating my own private counseling practice.
Along the way you can expect me to vent about fun things like home ownership, family planning, and newly married life.
So there you have it. My chaotic life in a neat little package.
Here is my philosophy:
I will never tell you NO. I may have a few opinions, but all foods can fit into a healthy lifestyle.
There will be no advising of EXTREME DIETING. ^See above^
No ONE SIZE FITS ALL mentality. Healthy means something different to us all.
Sometimes, I need a break from posting here on the site. When that happens, you can keep up with me @ashleyshawnutrition on instagram. #followme
Again, thank you for taking time out of your busy day to check out my page. If you like what you see please share!

Wanted to take a sec to introduce my two main men.
This is Ryan. He is my best friend, travel buddy, netflix and chill partner, and husband. He will eat any food I cook for him and tell me it's the best thing he has ever eaten, which is very dangerous for my self-esteem (hello, big head). He is also a health and physical education teacher and I learn so much from him. Often you can find him working out and me being mad at him for making me look so lazy. It's a great relationship.

And this. This is Bernie. The reason I often skip morning workouts in favor of snuggles. He is my actual fur baby and I love him so much. Our favorite family activities are cutting Bernie's hair into mohawks, taking Bernie for hikes, and dressing Bernie up in ridiculous costumes. For all of the poking, prodding, and general annoyance I put this pup through, he is extremely docile and sweet - something for which I cannot take any credit for. #bernardthecockapoo
